New Experiences By Taking On The Chances

The more we go through life, the more we learn. As days pass by, we experience new things that we never expect to do, be it small or big. This quarter of our school year, I had the chance to try out a new activity once again. This time, I worked on a community project where I had to do some research about the community or town that I live in. Learning about the history and backstory of the place that I grew up at is certainly interesting and quite enjoyable. Through this activity, I managed to gain a lot of information, as well as feel a bit more connected with my town. I learned about how its name came to be, how the town was founded who found it, as well as read about the growth of the community and its people. I saw the improvement and unique characteristics of each community through this activity.

While I was working on the community project research, I felt multiple things. Even though I found it interesting learning about history, I also found it quite challenging. Gathering information that are based on facts are real, while avoiding false information is one of the challenges that I faced. Looking at trusted websites and making sure the information that I gather are real, all while making sure that the facts and information on my project are actually facts and not just based from assumptions or imaginary beliefs. With this challenge hindering me from completing my community based project, I also looked for other ways to gather more trusted information. I asked people from the community and interviewed them about the traditions, beliefs, as well with the culture of the community. I had people who knew the backstory of the place answer my questions to further gather familiarity with the community’s history. With the answers from people from the community themselves, including those who are in an official position, I used these answers and based them on my online research to see if they add up. With this, I managed to complete my community research.

Truly, it doesn’t hurt to try out new things, rather, giving up an opportunity and regretting later on is what hurts more. Throughout this 3rd quarter, once again, I had the chance to experience a new, different activity. By doing this community based research, I also managed to have a more in-depth search about the community that I live in, making me more feel like a true citizen in our town. Moving on, I will surely be thankful with what I have experience this quarter, as it gave me an activity that made me gain a lot of knowledge about the people and community around me. It made me look at the important traditions and cultures that will hold the identity of its people.
