Quality Education Amidst the COVID-19 Pandemic
Since the
COVID-19 outbreak in late December 2020, it has badly affected the lives of
many people and wrecked-havoc across the world. People of all ages has been
affected by the virus, and like any sector, education has been badly hit as
well. Students of every year level, schools, and teachers have been having a
hard time adjusting because of the current situations caused by the virus.
COVID-19 has caused children and youth all over the world to be out of school
in almost all countries. People are worried about our current phase and how
long this crisis will have an impact on children and youth. The losses in
learning, increase in dropout rates, and even behavior changes among children
are worrisome.
Despite the huge impact the virus did to
our economy and every other sectors, actions are made in order to continue the
learning of children amidst the pandemic. Because students are unable to
physically have classes and go to school, we opted to have our classes online,
where students and teachers interact and try to have the same teaching quality
digitally. Online education is the next best thing to face to face classes, but
it cannot substitute it. Students go to school not only to learn about certain
subjects that the teachers teach, but they are also learning social and
emotional learning, where children’s awareness grow in multiple perspectives.
These are difficult to do so without face to face interaction with fellow
students and teachers. Having said that, teachers are trying to get in touch with
their students the best they can by having online classes and meetings, just to
keep that flow that you would initially have in face to face classes. Teachers
are also trained in offering online lessons using digital platforms, this is to
ensure that students have the best quality teaching that they can get while not
being able to physically interact with their teachers. It should also be
considered the children that have issues with online connection, that is why
necessary arrangements are made to those who cannot access the internet. Both
teachers and students are helping each other to make adjustments in order to
fully interact with one other and have quality experience for both parties.
Having said this, we must understand that
online education is the best alternative we have right now. Under the
circumstances we are at, let us divert our attention to the possibilities that
we could do. While online education has a big difference oppose to the
traditional way of learning, essential adjustments are made for a sustainable
alternative method for learning. But of course, obstacles and queries are
inevitable at times like this. Fortunately, we are now seeing creativity in
different approaches in online education, which strengthens the quality education
that children need. Despite any reason, be it a pandemic, disaster provide an
opportunity for us to rethink and get together to unite as one, enhancing our
skills and thinking at the same time.
This blog is very informational and well-written. I agree that even though online education is not suitable for all, it's our best option right now. That's why we should be thankful that the government found a way to continue our education amidst a pandemic. I learned a lot while reading this blog, thanks!
ReplyDeleteHello Carla! Indeed, Online learning is our best option as of this moment and we should accept it and learn to open up on more possibilities, as what you have said. I love how you recognized the creativity and approached of the system improving. Great work, keep it up!
ReplyDeleteYou have a really good point there. We have no other choice but to deal with online learning for it is the best option we have since modular learning requires self-learning, and that is not easy for all students.
