Continuation of Christmas Despite Any Hurdles: The Essence In our Hearts Regardless

 



As we live through life with all of these changes and challenges the pandemic is constantly giving us, we are taught to find ways through this inevitable obstacle. As stated many times, the pandemic has certainly brought us misfortunes in many different ways. It didn’t give us the satisfaction in celebrating any events, and it certainly didn’t give us the feeling of contentment when it comes to spending time with our friends and family, especially those who are far away from us. Despite all of the misfortunes and odds caused by the pandemic, the Christmas spirit and vibes in the Heritage City of Vigan still continuous.




          Last Christmas was, I would say, still has its essence. The essence of Christmas is still there, but in its simplicity. With focus on the spread of the virus, we are preoccupied and cautious with the guidelines to ensure all of our safety while celebrating. While we are still discouraged to have big gatherings, the usual Christmas vibe and happiness is still there. People living in Vigan, where most of the events and festivals happen and many decorations are seen, also had the Christmas spirit despite the pandemic. The locals still found ways to have everyone feel the Christmas vibes, even with limited actions. This is where their creativity sparked in. With many ideas coming up in order to fully celebrate Christmas in its simplicity. Families are still able to gather and celebrate while having an enjoyable meal together, all while ensuring proper hygiene. Multiple families also had mini gatherings and celebrations in their homes, where they played games and had an overall enjoyable day filled with laughter. Families are also able to go out to see the various decorations in the city, also following the guidelines and wearing their masks at all times. With family members in other countries or places, while they could still come home and take a few days quarantine if they wanted to, they still found ways and times to celebrate Christmas with their families. The most important part of Christmas is for us to be reminded of our Lord and Savior. The locals in the city of Vigan also attended the holy mass, where they can truly feel the real essence of Christmas and celebrate it with the Lord.




          Christmas can be celebrated in any time, and in any situation that may be happening. Nothing can stop us from celebrating an important event. With the pandemic, we are reminded the simplicity of ways that we can celebrate Christmas. This year has been tough for many, but we continued to cling to our hopes. That is what Christmas is all about. Spreading hope and love to the people around us, all while thanking and worshiping the Lord who is the cause of our unending hopes. Amidst the fear and confusion of people due to the pandemic, we are constantly reminded that we can still find enjoyment and happiness, even in the simplest things that we can do.
